Riders Outrun the Rebels
Essex Rebels division 1 men were looking to build on their improved performance last weekend as they took on the Loughborough Riders. Rebels were still looking for their first league win of the season whilst Loughborough had only won 1 in their last 5 games.
Despite the 3 hour minibus journey, the Rebels started sharp and took an early lead. As the quarter progressed Loughborough began to find their feet whilst Essex were unable to convert some easy shots.
The second saw long spells of sloppy play by both sides. Essex only made 13 points in the 2nd which allowed the riders to eek out a 12 point lead going into half time.
The start of the second half and the Rebels seemed to not come out of the locker room. Going 5 minutes of play with only scoring 3 points. Loughborough didn’t let up and continued to pile on the pressure. The score line remained the same going into the final stanza, with Rebels not being able to fight back.
The game finished 94 – 70 to Loughborough.
Essex were led by Ben Winter with 13 points and 6 rebounds, closely followed by Matthew Ashley with 11 points.
Next week the Rebels host the inform Newcastle University at the Essex Sport Arena at 7pm.
