Essex Take Control in Cardiff
The Essex Rebels travelled to Cardiff this past Saturday to take on the archers in another exciting match up in the WBBL.
Both teams returned to action this past weekend after the international break. The Rebels coming in to this game having won their last two league games, while the Cardiff side looking to end a four game loosing streak.
The Rebels came out strong in the first half of play, firing on all cylinders offensively and building a 26 point lead going in to the half lead by some impressive outside shooting from Rebels guard Ashleigh Munns who hit 4 of her 5 made threes for the game.
Archers star Shannon Hatch led the way for Cardiff pouring in an impressive 23 points, while grabbing 11 rebounds, despite her performance this just wasn’t enough to beat a well balanced Essex side that looked as though they controlled the tempo of the game on both ends from start to finish. The Rebels were able to close out the game 82-54.
“ I’m pleased with the performance today, the travel in this league at times is unforgiving, but for our team to step of the bus and execute at this level really impressed me. We’ve made some big strides the last two weeks, and are really starting to look like the team I think we can be. I’m very happy with where we are at right now, I think we all are, but we also understand how important it is to keep pushing and getting better. We have an important run of games coming up here before we break for Christmas, the key for us is to stay focussed and take it one game at a time”
The Rebels have a big weekend coming up, where they play host to the Cardiff met Archers on Saturday. And then are back in action on Sunday at home as they host the Leicester Riders on the Sunday.
