Rebels capture Cardiff at home
The Essex Rebels Women’s team continued their win streak this past Saturday in front of a big crowd at the University of Essex Arena. The Rebels, who came into the game on a three-game win streak, were looking for a repeat of the previous weekends victory when they visited Cardiff on the road. After a dominate performance the previous week, the Cardiff Archers made some adjustments throughout the week, but were still no match for the Rebels who tallied 94 points and never looked back the entire 40-minutes.
Led by captain Andrea Kohlhaas and Angel Waithe, who both contribute 16 points, and a double-double by Lu Costa (13 points, 11 rebounds), Rebels fans enjoyed seeing all players on the court in the high scoring affair, with 5 reaching double digits.
Head coach Tom Sadler had this to say after the game, “I thought we looked great offensively. When we run our sets and share the ball, we get some great looks. Credit to Cardiff who came here to compete hard and made some good adjustments and managed to make it a competitive game. Our team need to regroup now and stayed focused because we are right back at it tomorrow against a strong Leicester team.”
Rebels:
A. Kohlhaas – 16 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists
D. Waithe – 16 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals
L. Costa – 13 points, 11 rebounds
C. Bieg Salazar – 11 points, 3 assists, 3 steals
Cardiff:
L. Saiki – 21 points, 10 assists
I. Bunyan – 17 points, 6 rebounds
S. Hatch – 13 points, 14 rebounds
The Rebels have a quick turnaround, as they face the Leicester Riders at home tomorrow night, as both teams battle to continue their climbs up the league table.
