Rebels Fight Hard in Final Game Against Suns

The Essex Rebels Women’s Basketball team sadly saw their season come to a conclusion this past weekend. The Rebels entered the first round of the play-offs as a 7-seed facing the 2-seed Sevenoaks Suns. Despite leading heading into the fourth quarter, the Rebels were unable to hold on and lost by a final score of 66-55. 

The first half was all Rebels as they took a quick lead, holding the Suns to just 28 points and scoring 35 of their own. Even though the Suns came out and won the third quarter, the Rebels still held a 5-point lead with ten minutes to play. However, former league MVP Cat Carr for the Suns refused to concede, finishing out the game with 27 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists to lift her team past the Rebels and win the game. Unfortunately for the Rebels, Cat’s performance happened just as scoring dried up for the Rebels and foul trouble mounted in the last ten minutes. All factors that led to the tide turning. 

Head Coach Tom Sadler had this to say after the game, “Right now it stings. To be leading throughout most of the game and then run into foul trouble and a drought on the offensive end within the last quarter is rough. We came to play and the team gave it their all. But, we have to highlight that we’ve had a great season. We made play-offs again for the second consecutive season, we had massive success in BUCS where a lot of these WBBL players also play. The growth we’ve made as a team in the past four years is massive and we are all excited to see how what this programme can achieve in the future.”
