EX-BBL TALENT BUSUMBRU SIGNS FOR REBELS
Essex Rebels are excited to announce the signing of talented British Guard Luke Busumbru.
The 6’3” guard joins us from British Basketball League (BBL) side Surrey Scorchers where he featured in 19 BBL games, averaging 5.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
Prior to the Scorchers, Luke spent three years on the south coast where he made a name for himself as one of the standout players in the NBL helping Solent Kestrels to three back-to-back Division 1 titles and two National Cup championships.
The 25-year-old floor general was also part of the 2019-2020 Kestrels team that became the first non-BBL side to advance to the BBL Trophy Final in a season where he averaged an exceptional 14 points on 57.3% shooting, 6 rebounds and 5 assists per game, as well as leading the team in efficiency rating.
Essex Rebels fans can expect an explosive, athletic and high energy player who is likely to feed off the energy created at the Essex Sport Arena. Furthermore, Luke brings with him a considerable pedigree within the league, which is certain to make an impact as Rebels look to improve on their 11th place finish in the NBL last season.
Discussing his signing with the Rebels and competing in the NBL again next season, Luke Busumbru said:
“I’ve been speaking to Coach Norfolk for a while now and was really impressed by the programme in general, the facilities, the direction they are trying to go; i am just really excited to get started at Essex. There’s a lot of buzz going into the season, and I think we have a good group of guys. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and getting started.”
Commenting on this exciting new signing, Coach Ross Norfolk, said:
“We are excited to secure the services of Luke for the next 3 years whilst he completes is undergraduate degree at the University. Luke will bring experience and a winning culture to the programme. We will be utilising his leadership skills as our floor general whilst tapping into his offensive and defensive capabilities. Luke is explosive and when getting downhill into the lane he has the ability to score through contact and make plays for others. Combining that with the ability to guard 90 feet across the floor is what the Rebels need this coming season. Welcome to the Rebels Luke!’’
Busumbru becomes the first signing of the summer in what is set to be the most exciting season for Essex Rebels on and off the court since launching in 2018.
