REBELS WELCOME BACK AYTON FOR SECOND YEAR
Essex Rebels welcome back Shantell Ayton for her second season with the club.
Ayton joined the Essex Rebels last season following a successful final year with COLA in the WEABL, guiding them to the finals where they beat Nottingham Wildcats Academy.
The 19-year-old development guard experienced her first taste of WBBL action when she made her debut against Oaklands Wolves in March. Her next appearance was at home to Manchester Mystics where she memorably made two back-to-back three-pointers in the fourth quarter to the delight of her teammates and Rebels crowd.
Ayton will be looking to develop further in the upcoming season and gain added valuable experience playing in the WBBL as she continues her studies at the University of Essex.
Commenting on going into her second year with the Rebels, Shantell Ayton said:
“I’m very excited to be back at Essex playing for the rebels this season, I’m looking forward for another good and positive season”.
Ashley Cookson, Head of Basketball Performance, had this to say about Shantell returning:
“Shantell has been putting in consistent work over the summer and I’m excited to see the development over the course of the season. Shantell quietly puts in the work when the lights are off and we’re grateful for the example she sets every day, stacking days working on in her game”.
Welcome back Shantell!
