On Saturday, the Essex Rebels D1 and D3 Men squads take centre stage as they enter the playoff quarterfinals at the Essex Sport Arena. It’s a do-or-die situation as both teams face tough opponents in the Bradford Dragons and the Nottingham Trent Hoods respectively.
Essex Rebels D3 Men vs Nottingham Trent Hoods | 4PM
First up at 4pm, the South-East Division D3 Champions and overall top seed in the Division 3 playoffs will take on ninth-seed Nottingham Trent Hoods in a pivotal matchup aiming to secure a spot in the playoff semi-finals. Fresh off a hard-fought victory against a well-coached Tees Valley team, the Rebels will be looking to extend their winning streak and move one step closer to the ultimate goal, the NBL Division 3 title.
Coach Maiden commenting on the game, stated,
Saturday will be a special day for the club. A men’s playoff double header is exciting for all involved and we will need every bit of support from our amazing home fans to help us get the win! We’ve worked hard to get to this position and are proud of our achievements so far, but we are hungry for more and want this playoff title!
Essex Rebels D1 Men vs Bradford Dragons | 6.30PM
The day will continue with the Essex Rebels D1 men facing off against Bradford Dragons in the NBL Division 1 playoff quarterfinals at 6.30pm. Despite securing victories in both encounters during the regular season, this upcoming match promises to be a challenging test. With a record of 11 wins and 13 losses, the Dragons have proven themselves to be a resilient opponent for teams in the league.

It’s been a great regular season. To finish on the same points as Derby and only missing out on the championship because of the head to head is tough but it shows the growth in the programme and the commitment the guys have made. We now look forward to welcoming Bradford to the Essex sport arena in the quarter finals of the playoffs. Bradford are a tough team with experienced players that have been in these situations before. We focus on the scout and be prepared for a battle!

Despite encountering a challenging stretch marked by injuries, which have led to a series of defeats in four out of their last five games, the Rebels are determined to return to their winning ways.
In the previous matchup between the two sides, the Rebels emerged victorious with a narrow 74-79 win, showcasing their determination on the court. As the Rebels prepare for the rematch, they know that controlling Janika Griffith Wallace, who scored a game high 28 points in the first game, will be crucial to securing the victory.

Durham has given us some problems this season in both the WBBL and BUCS competitions. We expect no different this week and will be looking to right the wrongs of our BUCS finals loss. I’ve been proud of our teams resilience and adaptation in this part of the season, playing through big changes in our line-up due to injuries. All these experiences will serve us well moving into the play-offs and I’m confident we can put together a good 40minutes this Sunday.
