Rebels Add Young Talent with Michael Amako Signing
Essex Rebels are excited to announce the signing of promising guard Michael Amako for the upcoming NBL Division 1 season.
Standing at 6-foot-6, the London-born Amako brings positional flexibility to the Rebels, capable of playing both small forward and shooting guard positions. His addition to the team adds depth and valuable league experience to the Rebels’ squad for the 2024-25 season.
Amako joins the Rebels following a season in the United States, where he gained additional experience competing for Laramie County Community College in the NJCAA Region IX.
Prior to his time in the States, Amako played for Barking Abbey, competing in both the NBL Division 1 and the Elite Academy Basketball League (EABL). In the EABL, he showcased his scoring efficiency with an impressive true shooting percentage of 64.7% per game, demonstrating his potential as a versatile scorer.
Amako’s development has been recognized at the national level, with the young talent being selected for the England Under-18 Men’s Squad for the 4 Nations Tournament in 2022.
On joining the Rebels, Michael Amako expressed his enthusiasm:
“I’m very excited to be joining Essex. There is a great environment here with the players and coaches, and I can’t wait to compete. Having played in NBL Division 1 before, I know the level of competition we’re facing, and I’m eager to contribute to the team’s success. The Rebels’ performance last season was impressive, and I’m ready to work hard and develop my game further with the Rebels.”
Essex Rebels Head Coach Ross Norfolk shared his thoughts on the latest addition to the team:
“We are excited to have Michael be part of the Rebels family! He has shown he can compete at this level in previous years and we look forward to seeing his development whilst playing and studying with us. His ability to get downhill and shoot from the outside will be utilised in transition.
Essex Rebels fans can look forward to seeing this promising young player back in NBL Division 1 action when the new season tips off in three weeks time at our Season Opener on Saturday 5 October!
