The 2024/25 Volleyball season is just around the corner, and our Rebels volleyball are eger to start.
After a successful inaugural Super League Opening Weekend in 2023, Volleyball England is returning with another edition. This event will take place at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering on the 12th and 13th October 2024. All 20 Super League teams, both men and women, will take part in the event. A total of 10 matches will be played across both days to start the 2024-25 top-flight Volleyball season.
The Rebels men’s team is set to take the court on Saturday, 12th October, against IBB Polonia at 12:30pm. After finishing last season in 3rd place, the Rebels are eager to kick off the new season with a strong performance. IBB Polonia, having finished at the top of the league last year, will be a tough opponent, but the Rebels are ready to rise to the challenge. With several new additions to the roster and players gaining international experience in the off-season, the team is ready for growth and improvement. The Rebels aim to build on last year’s success and secure a victory against Polonia to start the season with a win.
Ahead of the weekend, Rebels’ men’s head coach, Alex Porter said, “I’m really excited for the season opener this weekend. It’s the first chance for our athletes to demonstrate how hard they’ve worked during the preseason period, plus playing against IBB Polonia is always a thrilling entertaining game.”
The Rebels women’s team will take the court on Sunday, 13th October, facing Leeds Gorse at 4:30pm. After finishing last season in 4th place, the Rebels are excited to kick off their 2024/25 campaign with a strong performance, especially with several new players joining the squad. This matchup promises to be an exciting start to the season as the Rebels aim to set the tone for the year ahead. Meanwhile, Leeds Gorse, who finished in 6th place last season, will be looking to improve their results and secure a playoff spot.
Alex Chinery, Essex Rebels women’s head coach said ahead of the weekend, “We are incredibly excited to once again be kicking off a Super League campaign at Kettering for the opening weekend. After a spring of development for our returning athletes and a strong recruitment to bring new life into the team, there is a real sense of possibility around the squad. We are keen to avenge the heart-breaking loss in last season bronze medal match, by going one better and finishing in the medal positions at the end of the season, whilst maintaining our exciting, fast-paced style of play!”
As the 2024-25 season kicks off, we can’t wait to see our Essex Rebels volleyball teams take to the court and give their all. Both teams are determined to build on last season’s success, and with new talent and fresh energy, they’re ready to make an impact from the very first serve. Whether you’re cheering from the stands or following along from home, your support will be crucial in pushing our Rebels to new heights this season.
Let’s get ready to rally behind the Rebels and make this an unforgettable season!
