GAME PREVIEW: Essex Rebels vs Malory Eagles

February 27, 2025

On  Saturday, 1 March, the Essex Rebels Men’s and Women’s Volleyball teams take the centre stage at the Essex Sport Arena for a Double Header Volleyball Game Day, against the Malory Eagles.

The day kicks off with the Essex Rebels Men’s Volleyball team facing the Malory Eagles at 3pm in a top of the table clash. The Rebels Men sit at the top of the Dynamik Men’s Super League table with a 13-1 record and are coming off a 3-2 win against Richmond. They are currently on a 9-game winning streak in the league with their last loss coming on 1 December, against the Malory Eagles. The Eagles are sitting in second place of the MSL table with a 11-3 record and are coming off a 3-2 win against the Essex Blaze. Both the Rebels and the Eagles have already secured their spot in the Super League Final 4. However, both teams will want to win this matchup, with the Rebels trying to make up for their loss against the Eagles earlier this season.

Coach Porter is looking ahead to the match-up stating:

“Playing Malory Eagles is always one of the highlights of the season, with the Rebels sitting top of the Super League and Malory in 2nd places it’s lined up to be a cracker of a game.”

The second game of the double header sees the Essex Rebels Women’s Volleyball team face the Malory Eagles at 5pm. The Rebels Women sit in third place of the Maree Women’s Super League table with a 11-3 record and are coming off a successful road trip where they beat both Durham and Leeds in 3 sets. The Rebels are on a 6-game winning streak in the league but unfortunately got knocked out of the National Cup the previous weekend. With the Cup out of sight, the Rebels Women will be looking at improving their seeding for the Super League Final 4 tournament they recently qualified for. The Malory Eagles sit right above the Rebels with a 14-1 record and are coming off a 3-0 win against Cambridge. The Eagles have also qualified for the Super League Final 4 and will be looking at finishing at the top of the table by the end of the season. This game will be a deciding factor in determining the final seeding of both teams.

Head Coach Alex Chinery is excited for this match-up with Malry:

“With our final 4 status achieved, we are looking forward to seeing how we match up against one of the countries top teams in Malory Eagles. Matches between the two teams have been close and full of drama in the last few seasons, let’s hope we have can put on another classic on Saturday.”
