

Rebels Women Edged in Season Finale, Setting up Playoff Clash with Newcastle Eagles
Essex Rebels women’s team concluded their regular season with a nail-biting 81-79 defeat against B. Braun Sheffield Hatters on the road. Despite the narrow loss, the Rebels finish the campaign in 6th place with a 10-10 record and will face Newcastle Eagles in the playoff quarter-finals on Saturday 3 May.
Maria Blazejewski led the Rebels with a dominant performance, scoring 17 points while pulling down 9 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists. Lauren Park-Lane added 14 points and 9 assists, orchestrating the offense effectively throughout the contest. Taylor O’Brien contributed 16 points and 5 rebounds, while Daniella Turner added 11 points and 4 rebounds.
The Rebels shot well from the field at 44.3% and were particularly effective from beyond the arc, converting 50% of their three-point attempts (14-28). The team distributed the ball efficiently, recording 24 assists on 27 made field goals, but were narrowly outrebounded 42-35 by the home side.
For Sheffield, Georgia Gayle led all scorers with 25 points and 4 assists, while Trudy Singleton added 12 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. Shauna Harrison also made a significant impact with 12 points and 4 assists.
The defeat brings the Rebels’ regular season record to 10-10, securing a 6th-place finish in the final standings. The team now turns its attention to the playoffs, where they’ll travel to face third-placed Newcastle Eagles (15-5) in the quarter-finals on Saturday 3 May.
