Double Win for the Rebels secures 6th
Essex Rebels Divison 1 Men had a busy double header last weekend with a road trip to Reading Rockers on Saturday and then hosting Solent Kestrels on Sunday
In the battle for ninth spot, the Rebels came away with a overtime win 112-105 against Reading Rockets.
Essex started the game fast and putting Reading on the back foot. As the quarters progressed the Rockets began to chip away and it had to be overtime that decided the contest.
Lee Hodges impressed for the Rebels off the bench with a 24 points, 13 rebound double-double, closely backed up by Sam Newman’s 21 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists.
It was a tight turn around for the Rebels as they had the early tip off on Sunday against a under strength Solent Kestrels. Solent beat Leicester warriors on Saturday which crowned them champions.
A sluggish start from the Rebels was expected, however they were able to edge out a halftime lead. Solent still had some experienced players on their roster and a big 3rd quarter for the visitors allowed them back into the game.
Rebels were able to keep their cool going into the fourth and a tight contest saw Essex take the win 84 – 79.
Both Ethan Price and Lee Hodges posted 17 points with Rory Winter pouring in 15.
Coach Ross Norfolk was happy with the season, “It’s been a long and difficult season due to the pandemic. The guys have been professional throughout and their commitment to the programme has been honourable. We are excited for the playoffs and look forward to hosting Bradford next week”
