Essex Rebels Deliver ‘Her World Her Rules’ Basketball Clinic on International Women’s Day
On Saturday 8th March, the Essex Rebels hosted a ‘Her World, Her Rules’ (HWHR) Basketball clinic at the Essex Sport Arena, as part of FIBA’s global campaign to inspire and empower more girls to get involved in basketball. This event was held on International Women’s Day and provided over 50 young girls between the ages of 6-15 with a unique opportunity to develop their skills and connect with role models.
The event commenced with a 90-minute on-court training session led by members of the Essex Rebels Super League Basketball Women’s team. Following the training, participants engaged in a 30-minute Q&A session with the players, providing valuable insights into the game and the life of a professional athlete.
Each participant received a free HWHR t-shirt, a basketball and tickets to watch the Essex Rebels NBL D1 Men’s team in action against the City of Birmingham Rockets. Some of the young girls had the exciting opportunity to be mascots, running out onto the court with the Rebels Men’s team during player announcements. During halftime, they also took part in a fun on-court competition, showcasing their newly developed skills in front of the Rebels home crowd.
Rebels Sport Development Coordinator, Liv Partridge, reflected on the impact of the event, saying:
“It was amazing to see so many girls come together and enjoy playing basketball. Events like this are so important because they help build confidence and show young girls that basketball is for them. Hopefully, this is just the beginning of their basketball journey.”
