Exciting Back-to-Back Games for the Essex Rebels Men

October 17, 2024

The D2 men will be the first team to hit the court in the Essex Sports Arena after the Black History Celebration Gameday. The Rebels D2 will face the Cobham Scorchers at 1pm, for their fourth game of the season. The newly promoted Rebels have had a rough start to the season, starting with a record of 0-3, coming off a loss to Barking Abbey. Facing a similar situation, the Cobham Scorchers have started the season with a 0-2 record, coming off a loss to the Westminster Warriors. With both teams sitting in undesirable positions, they will be facing off in a battle for their first win of the season.

After Saturday’s matchup against the Nottingham Hoods, the Rebels D1 men are back in action at the Essex Sports Arena on Sunday, 20 October, at 4 pm. This will be their third game of the NBL Division 1 regular season, as they take on the Reading Rockets.

The Rockets have had a fiery start to their overall season, dominating the KitKing Trophy group stages and advancing to the semifinals. However, their momentum was recently halted in their first regular-season loss last weekend against the City of Birmingham, putting their current record at 1-1. They’ll be eager to bounce back and avoid a second consecutive loss when they step onto the Rebels’ home court.

Adding a layer of intrigue for Rebels fans, two familiar faces will suit up for the Rockets. Victor Olarerin, last season’s top scorer for the Rebels, now wears the Reading jersey, alongside former Rebels’ teammate Zain Poorman—both players well-known to the Essex community.

Players to Watch: Mitch Clarke

A key player for the Rebels to focus on will be Rockets’ point guard Mitch Clarke. Clarke has been the driving force behind Reading’s offense, averaging 15.8 points per game. Beyond scoring, he leads his team in average minutes, efficiency, assists, and steals. His ability to control the tempo and create opportunities for his teammates makes him a significant threat, and shutting him down will be critical for the Rebels if they hope to disrupt Reading’s offensive flow.

This game won’t be an easy one for the Rebels, as they’ll be playing their second game in as many days. The Rockets, also sitting at 1-1, will be eager to secure a win and climb up the standings. Reading will be looking to improve their record, with a balanced roster that combines experienced and energetic players. Known for their fast-paced style of play, the Rockets will aim to push the tempo throughout the contest.

The Rebels, who similarly enjoy an up-tempo, high-energy playing style themselves, are set to provide strong competition, setting the stage for an exciting and fast-paced matchup. Fans can expect an intense matchup with both teams leaving it all on the floor.
