GAME PREVIEW: Final Men’s D1 Basketball Home Game of the Season & Final Volleyball Home Double Header

March 06, 2025

Following an action-packed International Women’s Day game day, the Essex Rebels Men’s NBL Division 1 Basketball team will take to the court for their final home game of the 2024/25 season on Sunday, 9 March at 4pm at the Essex Sport Arena.

They’ll be up against the formidable Hemel Storm, the top-ranked team in the NBL Division 1, with a dominating 17-1 record. Coming off a hard-fought 97-92 win against the Milton Keynes Breakers, Hemel has been a force to be reckoned with all season. Their only loss came in late February against the Reading Rockets, making them one of the most consistent teams in the league. Hemel boasts several Essex Rebels alumni, including team captain Sam Newman, as well as Matthew Disu and Ade Atiba, adding a personal rivalry to the mix. With the playoffs fast approaching, every game now carries extra weight. The Rebels, sitting in 6th place, are determined to break into the top four, while Hemel is fighting to maintain their hold on the number-one spot. This game is bound to deliver high-stakes, intense action from start to finish!

Alongside the thrilling men’s basketball action, the Rebels Volleyball Teams will be wrapping up their regular season at the Essex Sport Centre with a high-stakes volleyball double-header this Sunday!

At 1pm, the Women’s Volleyball team will face Wessex in their penultimate game of the season. Wessex currently sit at the bottom of the WSL standings with a 1-15 record, though they did claim their first win of the season in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Cambridge. The Rebels come into this match as clear favorites and will be eager to secure a win to boost their seeding ahead of the Final 4 tournament. Every point counts!

At 3pm, the Men’s Volleyball team will take on Stockport, who currently sit 10th in the MSL standings. The Rebels, with an impressive 13-2 record, are in pole position for the top spot in the league. Coming off a narrow 2-3 loss to the Malory Eagles, they’ll be determined to bounce back and keep their momentum going. Stockport, who are already out of contention for the Final 4 with a 3-12 record, will be looking to spoil the Rebels’ run, but the Rebels Men will be focused on securing a victory to maintain their first-place standing.

Get your tickets for both games this weekend and come support your Rebels in their final push for the playoffs!
