GAME PREVIEW: INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

March 06, 2025

On Saturday 8, March, for International Women’s Day, the Essex Rebels will host a multi-sport double header. On this day the Essex Sport Arena will be the home to both the D1 Men’s Basketball team and Women’s Volleyball team.

The double header tips-off at 2pm with the Rebels D1 Men’s Basketball team facing the City of Birmingham Rockets for their penultimate home game of the season. The Rebels have found good form as of recently, currently sitting in 6th place of the NBL Division 1 standings with a 10-7 record and three-game winning streak. They are coming off a commanding 110-78 victory against the Worthing Thunder and will be looking at maintaining their strong form for this last stretch of the season. In their victory over Worthing, Kyron Martin (24 points, 7 rebounds), Emmanuel Kanwei (18 pts, 7-7 FG), and Ben Winter (17 pts, 4 assists) led the charge with standout performances in a game that displayed the Rebels fire power. Their opponents, the City of Birmingham Rockets, currently sit in 9th place of the NBL Division 1 standings with a 7-13 record. They are coming off a 85-92 loss to the Bradford Dragons and only have four more games left this season. With the Rockets having a limited number of games left in their 2024/25 season, they will be looking at maximizing their performances and getting wins in their final games, to squeeze into a playoff spot.

At 4pm, in between the Rebels Basketball and Volleyball game, fans can come and enjoy the Fanzone where they can participate in yard games, enjoy food, and remember the moment with the Rebels photobooth. In addition to the Fanzone there will be a Kids Zone where kids can play basketball and volleyball.

The Women’s Volleyball team are set to face Team SideOut Polonia at 6pm for their last game in the Essex Sport Arena for the 2024/25 season. The Rebels women currently sit in 3rd place of the WSL standings with a 11-4 record, and are coming off a tough 1-3 loss to the 2nd placed Malory Eagles. With the ladies only having three more games left before they head to London for the Final 4, they will be looking at bouncing back and finishing the regular season in strong fashion. Their opponents, Team SideOut, are the current 1st placed team in the WSL standings and are coming off a 3-0 victory over the Lionhearts Vinarius. To maintain their position in the standings, SideOut will be looking at beating the Rebels and putting up a challenge. To celebrate International Women’s Day and women in sport, tickets for this game will be free for everyone, so make sure to join us at the Essex Sport Arena and support our Rebels Ladies as they take on the league leaders.
