GAME PREVIEW: Rebels to face Newcastle Eagles & last NBL D2 game of the 2024/25 season!

March 28, 2025

On Saturday, March 29, the Essex Rebels Women’s and NBL Division 2 Men’s Basketball teams will take to the court for a basketball doubleheader at the Essex Sport Arena.

At 4 PM, the Rebels Women will face the third-placed Newcastle Eagles. The Rebels currently sit in sixth place in the Super League Basketball Women’s (SLBW) championship standings with a 7-7 record and are coming off an impressive 109-87 win against the Nottingham Wildcats. In this win, the Rebels filled up the box score with four players reaching double-digit points. Daniella Turner led the charge with 31 points, shooting 72.2% from the field, followed by Blazejewski with 25 points and 6 rebounds, earning both players SLBW “Starting 5 of the Week” honours. Taylor O’Brien also added 15 points and 2 steals, while Lauren Park-Lane posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 assists.

Their opponents this weekend, the Eagles, currently sit in third place in the SLBW Championship standings with a 10-4 record and are coming off a 59-85 loss to the Oaklands Wolves. As things currently stand in the Championship standings, this game between the Rebels and Eagles could potentially be a preview of what is to come in the first round of the playoffs. This game is sure to be an exciting matchup that you won’t want to miss.

At 6:30 PM, the Rebels NBL Division 2 Men’s team will face the Greenwich Titans in a game that marks the end of their 2024/25 NBL D2 season. The Rebels currently sit in tenth place in the NBL Division 2 Southern standings with a record of 4-17. Unfortunately, this means the Rebels Men will not qualify for the playoffs; however, they will be looking to end the season on a high by beating Greenwich. Greenwich currently sits in seventh place in the standings with a 10-11 record and will also be marking the end of their season with this game. As both teams face the end of their seasons this weekend, they will both be eager to come away with a win and end on a positive note.

Make sure to come and support both teams on Saturday as the Women face their final stretch of home games at the Essex Sport Arena this season, and the Men’s Division 2 team plays their last game of the season.
