NELSON SIGNS FOR THE REBELS TO FINALISE ROSTER
Essex Rebels are excited to announce their seventh and final signing of the summer, American forward, Connor Nelson.
The 6’6” forward signs from American University Eagles, based in Washington D.C, USA, where he spent four years competing in the NCAA Division 1 Patriot League. Connor joins fellow American, Trey Chapman, who signed from Hawaii Pacific Sharks in making the transatlantic move to the UK.
Nelson played in 19 conference games during the 2022/2023 season, helping American University Eagles to a sixth-place finish and a semi-final finish in the Patriot League Tournament, where they narrowly lose to Lafayette Leopards 84-76 in OT.
When given the chance, the 24-year-old from Denver, Colorado, showed his talent as a sharpshooter beyond the arc, shooting a 3-point percentage of 40.9, the highest among the team.
Prior to his time at American University, Nelson also played for Central Wyoming College as a freshman, averaging an impressive 13.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 22.2 in 18 games. Additionally, it’s not the first time that Connor can proudly call himself a Rebel, having played three years for the Denver South Rebels at high school level.
Connor brings with him a reputation of shooting from range, playing in the clutch, and an incredible work ethic, making him an exciting addition to complete the men’s roster for the 2023/2024 season as Coach Norfolk begins preparations for the Essex Rebel’s season opener on Saturday 7th October against Worthing Thunder.
Discussing his move from American University Eagles to the Essex Rebels, Nelson said:
“Beyond excited to start my professional basketball journey with the Essex Rebels. The reason I chose Essex is because of my relationship with Coach Ross, the facilities at the university and of course the opportunity to pursue higher education in Britain’s first city!”
Commenting on the final signing to complete the Rebels roster for the upcoming season, Coach Ross Norfolk,
“We are so excited to Welcome Connor to the Rebels family. Connor started at a Juco and showed his commitment to his craft which he was rewarded with a scholarship for 4 years at Division 1 school American University. We will be using Connor is various ways this season. He is able to defender multiple positions at a high level whilst also being able to shoot at a high clip from the perimeter. These skill sets from
