Rebels fail to outrun the Cavaliers
Essex Rebels were back in Division 1 action this weekend, hosting the Thames Valley Cavaliers. Both teams were looking to bounce back after narrow defeats last weekend.
Rebels started the game with great intensity. Scoring inside and getting to the foul line early. Josh Moore came out firing with 7 points to kickstart the rebels offence. Thames valley slowly found their way and began to tighten up on the defensive end. Essex had the lead by two points going into the second quarter.
The second quarter started fast with both teams trading baskets. With 2 minutes to go, Thames Valley ramped up the pressure and finished the half causing the hosts to turnover the ball five times and went onto a 12 point scoring run.
The score line saw Rebels down 12 points, 42 – 54.
Essex needed to regroup and go back to how they started the game. Thames valley didn’t let up and continued to pile on the pressure. Offensive rebounding and steals gave the visitors the edge going into the fourth and the Rebels found themselves with work to do.
The game finished 74 – 100 to the Cavaliers. Josh Moore and Jordan Gray lead the Rebels with 14 Points and 3 rebounds.
Head Coach Ross Norfolk saw the positives, ‘”Thames Valley have an efficient offence and they didn’t let up. Short moments throughout the game where we lacked concentration allowed them to get on high scoring runs. We as a group will learn from these experiences and will continue to work on concepts in preparation for our away double header this weekend”
