REBELS RETAIN FREEMAN FOR UPCOMING SEASON
Essex Rebels are thrilled to welcome back Tia Freeman, returning for her third season as a Rebel.
The 23-year-old guard from West Sussex has cemented herself as an integral part of the Rebels team over the past two seasons, following two very successful seasons with fellow WBBL side Nottingham Wildcats.
Freeman averaged 11.1 points last season, a career best in the WBBL, as well as averaging 4.8 rebounds and 3 assists per game. The all-round guard also moved into the top-20 in the all-time scorers in WBBL Championship history after reaching the milestone of 1000 points at the start of the year.
Freeman started playing in the WBBL as a teenager where she amassed 428 points at Oaklands Wolves and has represented GB at both U16 and U20 level. Tia brings a fierce competitiveness to the court whenever she puts on the Essex Rebels jersey and we look forward to seeing Tia in action again at the Essex Sport Arena next season.
Looking forward to her third season with the Rebels, Tia Freeman said:
“I’m really looking forward to getting back on the court for the Rebels under our new coach Ash. I love the direction the club is going and excited to play with the new team we have here.”
Head of Basketball Performance, Ashley Cookson, had this to say about Tia:
“Looking forward to coaching Tia this season. Tia has a competitive fire in her and is very keen to take the next steps in her playing career. Her slashing style and ability to get to the free throw line will continue to help us put points on the board this season.”
Make sure you come and support Tia and the rest of the team as we try to upset the reigning WBBL Playoff champions, London Lions, on Saturday 21 October to kick off our WBBL campaign.
