REBELS SIGN WBBL MAESTRO RENEE BUSCH
Essex Rebels are excited to announce the signing of GB International guard, Renee Busch.
Busch has been a maestro in the Women’s British Basketball League over the past seven seasons since signing for Sevenoaks Suns in 2016.
In that time, Renee collected eight pieces of silverware winning three consecutive WBBL Playoff Championships from 2017 to 2019, three back-to-back WBBL League Championships from 2019 to 2021, and respective WBBL Trophy and Cup wins in 2017 and 2020. Renee also represented the Great Britain senior team in this period, playing in two EuroBasket qualifiers in 2021.
Before making her move back to the UK in 2016, the 30-year-old guard had a successful collegiate career in the NCAA Division 1 with Pennsylvania Quackers where she was a Big 5 champion and Epton-Tarr award winner in the 2014-2015 season.
The 30-year-old is renowned for her sharpshooting and led the league in three-point percentage last season with an incredible average of 44.7%. The GB international is also an accomplished defensive player with a wealth of experience, which will make her an invaluable asset to Coach Cookson’s roster.
Alongside her achievements on the court, Renee also holds a strong passion for coaching and inspiring the next generation of female basketball players. Renee has been a regular fixture in the GB junior squads, coaching at GB U16 and U18 level, as well as being selected as GB U20 assistant coach this summer at the FIBA U20 Women’s European Championship in Romania.
Speaking about signing for the Essex Rebels, Renee Busch said:
“This is a big new season for me and I’m excited to be here. I love the people; I love being in the gym every day getting better. I’m excited for us, and I am going to enjoy every day.”
Ashley Cookson, Head of Basketball Performance, had this to say about Renee Busch joining:
“We are very excited to welcome Renee to the Rebels. Renee knows what it takes to win in this league and has had an immediate positive effect on the culture of our team. Renee’s ability to score the ball and be a pest on defence will certainly help our performance. Perhaps more importantly, she is about the team and whatever needs to be done for the team to win.”
Welcome Renee! We can’t wait to see you in action.
Rebels have added a true WBBL superstar to their ranks in Renee that is sure to excite Rebels fans when we try to upset the reigning WBBL Playoff champions, London Lions, on Saturday 21 October to kick off our WBBL campaign.
