Rebels take Queens last weekend at the Essex Sport Arena
It was a tale of two halves for the Essex Rebels this past weekend, as they secured a win against Gloucester City Queens and climbed the league table. Now sitting in 5th place, the Rebels will look to finish out the season strong to maintain a good play-off position.
The first half started with the Rebels looking poised to take another big win against Gloucester, who they met a few weeks back and won by a margin of 49, as they had a 10-0 spurt to help them to a six point lead at the end of the quarter. However, Gloucester turned up the heat from downtown, as they poured in 8 three-pointers to close out the half only down 4.
After another three-pointer to start the half from Gloucester saw the Rebels lead cut to one, Tia Freeman responded and came out ready to go scoring back-to-back 3s to jump start the Rebels offence and move them into an 18-0 run. The fourth quarter saw much the same as the home team went on to outscore the visitors 24-10 and end the game with a final score of 85-49.
Head Coach Tom Sadler had this to say after the game, “we know how important these last few regular season games are for us to maintain our play-off position and to gain some momentum going into the post season. It was great to see everyone get to play some big minutes today and contribute. I thought Gloucester had a great first half where it just seemed like they couldn’t miss, but we kept our composure and came out ready to go in the second half. With the results across the league lately it just continues to show how competitive these games are and how anyone can get a win if they turn up ready to go. We need to really take care of business now in the last few games and hopefully this result has given us a positive push in the right direction.”
