Rebels unable to take down the Lions
Essex Rebels D1 men took on BA London Lions on Saturday in their 5th game of the season. The short trip into East London saw Essex searching for their first win of the season.
The game started well matched on the defensive end. Barking began to eek out a scoring run so a quick timeout by the Rebels allowed them to regroup. Going into halftime Rebels were down by 7 and needed to come out fast in the 2nd half.
A more explosive start by the rebels saw them chip away at the lead but some missed rebounds on defensive allowed Lions to capitalise on some easy second chance points.
Rebels continued to fight back and got the game back to a 3 point game but some silly turnovers by Essex going down the stretch allowed Lions to maintain the lead.
The game finished with Essex falling short, 69-76. Matthew Ashley for Essex punched in 18 points whilst Mayo Adeyeye came up big for Essex with a 14 point and 10 rebound double double.
Head coach Ross Norfolk was pleased with the positive performance, “I’m happy we are moving forward as a team. We now just need to limit our individual mistakes and we will be in positions to win games”
Next week Essex host Bradford Dragons on Saturday and then Travel to Thames Valley Cavaliers on Sunday.
