Rebels Women Push Newcastle Eagles to the Limit in Tight Home Contest
Our Essex Rebels Women’s team suffered a narrow 72-67 defeat to Newcastle Eagles at the Essex Sport Arena, dropping their Super League Basketball Women record to 7-8.
The Rebels started strongly, leading 23-18 after the first quarter and 42-33 at halftime, but the Eagles mounted a comeback with a dominant third quarter, outscoring the home side 22-9 in that period to take control of the game.
Lauren Park-Lane led the Rebels with 19 points, 7 assists, and 3 steals in 32 minutes, while Taylor O’Brien added 14 points and 7 rebounds. Maria Blazejewski contributed 11 points and 8 rebounds, with Daniella Turner adding 9 points and 3 rebounds.
The Rebels struggled from beyond the arc, converting just 3 of 11 attempts (27.3%), and were outrebounded 46-31 by the visiting Eagles. Free throw shooting also proved problematic, with the team shooting just 47.4% from the line.
For Newcastle, Jada Guinn delivered an impressive performance with 25 points and 5 rebounds, while Abby Lowe (17 points) and other contributors helped secure the victory for the third-placed Eagles.
The Rebels now sit in 6th place with a 7-8 record as they prepare for their upcoming road game against bottom-placed London Lions, before returning home to face Caledonia Gladiators on April 12 for Community Day.
