Rockets blast past the Rebels
Essex Rebels hosted the reading rockets in their regular season match up and the final game of 2022.
Both teams were boasting similar records and keen to get points on the board.
The Rebels started slowly and couldn’t find their offensive flow, whilst Reading came out firing and doing the little things well.
Reading took a double digit lead but the Rebels rallied in the second. Owen chose and Rory winter gave Essex the spark with making shots from the outside. Scoring line at half time was 46-52 to the rockets.
Going into the 3rd quarter it had seemed the Rebels were still in the locker room. Reading piled on the pressure on the defensive end and Essex couldn’t find an answer. A poor quarter saw the rebels with a hill to climb.
The final stanza saw Essex play some better basketball but the damage was done early in the 3rd.
The scoreboard showed a win to Reading 99 – 71.
Essex were led by American Guard Owen Chose who pitched in 29 points whilst Rory Winter contributed 15 points off the bench.
Coach Norfolk was disappointed with the result, “We didn’t look after the ball on the offensive end, to many turnovers allowed them to play in transition and get easier scores. We battled hard in the 2nd but didn’t continue that after half time. Disappointing finish to 2022 but we look forward to our break and get prepared for our games early in January.
The Rebels now have a 2 week break from games over the Christmas period. Their first game back in 2023 is away to Manchester on the 7th January.
